The Town of Franklin is situated in the northwestern portion of Delaware County in the western foothills of the Catskill Mountains, Catskill Park is southeast of the township of Franklin. Ouleout Creek flows southwest along the northern edge of the township of Franklin and eventually joins East Sidney Reservoir System. The Town of Oneonta, located in Otsego County, borders Town of Franklin to the northeast.

Town of Franklin

Franklin lies in the northern part of Delaware County. It is bordered by Otsego County on the north, the towns of Davenport and Meredith on the east, the towns of Delhi, Hamden, and Walton on the south, and the town of Sidney on the west. Franklin has views of forested hills, streams, ponds, historic homes and commercial buildings, and numerous winding roads. Ouleout Creek, which flows west into the Susquehanna River, is the main surface water feature. Its tributaries are Handsome Brook and Croton Creek.

The Oneida tribe of Iroquois Indians first used the land. The first white settler came to Franklin in 1784 and settled in Bartlett Hallow. Since 1984 Franklin has been recognized as part of the New York State and National Register of Historic Sites.​
